9 – (9 ÷ 9) + 9 – (9 ÷ 9) = ?
9 – (1) + 9 – (1) = ?

Then we move on to solve addition and subtraction from left to right as follows:

(9 – 1) + 9 – 1 = ?
(8 + 9) – 1 = ?
17 – 1 = 16
