Lord bless this officer – we need more people like him! ❤️

People who go out of their way to help others, even if they get nothing for it, are the best. This police officer went way above his call of duty with this poor child.

James Hurst, a police officer from Savannah, Georgia, who recently did everything he could to comfort a lost child. Now, a heartwarming photo of his efforts has gone viral.

In May 2016, a 16-month-old boy was found on the streets of Savannah, Georgia, where he was wandering around unsupervised. The child was crying, desperately.

So the policeman slowly approached the distressed child, not wanting to scare him away. He said hello to the boy and told him he would help. The child calmed down. He could tell that this man was going to make everything better. Then Hurst picked up the child and took him to the hospital.

He picked up the child and comforted him

During the medical examination, the boy was scared and upset, but Officer James Hurst stayed by his side. He picked up the child and comforted him.

“I just knew that this child needed someone to be there for him. It was just human instinct; humanity. The hospital staff was taking great care of him [but] he was crying and crying. I picked him up and within minutes he was asleep on my chest,” said James Hurst.

The precious moment was captured on camera and then posted on the police department’s Facebook page. And more than 10,000 people have already liked the photo this week.

Several media outlets reported on the event and many people praised the officer’s efforts. Hurst himself said that he was just doing his job.

People everywhere were touched by Officer Hurst’s kindness, but Hurst believes he was just doing the right thing and doesn’t think he did anything special!

After the hospital confirmed that the child was healthy, Hurst assured that social services took the boy in. He is now safe and secure.

Although this story is a few years old, I couldn’t help but share it with you again. It shows a true blue hero who went above and beyond the call of duty to comfort a child in a scary situation – we need more stories like this on our facebook feeds!

If you were moved by this photo, please share to show your appreciation for Officer Hurst and all other officers who go beyond the call of duty.
