The title for the “World’s Richest Person” has been fought over for some time by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates.

But while boasting that label is an impressive feat, what we think is more newsworthy is the fact that Bezos is donating $98.5 million to helping the homeless!

According to reports, the 55-year-old – who has an estimated $109 billion fortune – will donate to 32 different organizations this year as they seek to shelter homeless families.

Back in September 2018, Bezos set up a charity called the Bezos Day 1 Fund. It’s primary aims were to fund existing non-profits that help families experiencing homelessness, and to create a network of new, non-profit tier-one preschools in low-income communities.

As per a report in the MailOnline, recent funding went to 32 groups in 23 different states.

A statement from the Bezos Day 1 Fund website explains the money has gone to: “Meaningful, high-impact work to provide shelter and support for young families in communities across the country”.

Last year, Bezos donated $97.5m to organizations tackling homelessness in 16 states.

It might be a relatively small amount to Bezos, but there’s no doubting that money will make a huge difference to the lives of many people.
